Wow it has been such a busy month! So much has been going on and I haven't had two seconds to blog about any of it. Well first things first the school play has finally been performed and the students did a fantastic job. There are pictures of it on the School Play page and a link to the video on YouTube. Check it out, it was fantabulous! Secondly, the Focused On Sadd page has also been updated with info about some of our lastest doings. It would be worth a read and a glance at the pics I have placed there. My art class is quickly ending and all the art will be posted on the Ider Art page. You should definately look it over as there is some really cool stuff on there. School is winding down and that means the library is about to close :( I know you are all just boo-hooing. Me too! But rest assured it will be open soon after school starts and we will have new books available for you to get your hands on. I will be reading lots over the summer and posting book reviews so keeping checking the website for those. If any of you read some books over the summer I would love a review of what you have read to place on the website. I have placed a picture below with some of the new books we have for the begining of the year. Oh my gosh, I am so excited to read nearly all of these! Can't wait! Have a great summer and Happy Reading!
Welcome back after spring break! I hope everyone has as good a time off as I did. I was luckily enough to go see Hunger Games and pick out a couple new books for the library. The Hunger Games movie was so good! They stuck to the book really well and the gamemakers in the movie had some cool technology that they used to control the game. I love the muttations; they were really scary looking! My favorite part was when Katniss showed off her fire dress to Ceasar Flickermen. At the end I so wanted the movie to keep going into the second book. They could have made the movie 18 hours long and I wouldn't have complained. Anywho I finished the Uglies series this past week. It was really good. I have a review of the first book on the review page. I also read Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I read it in one night; is was so interesting. I have a review of it as well on the review page. Then I started reading a new dystopian novel called Partials. I think it will be good for both girls and guys. It is about these living weapons that humans created to fight wars that turn on the humans and nearly wipe them off the face of the earth. It is an exciting book that keeps surprising me. The library is hosting the book fair at the end of this week so be sure to visit and buy some stuff so the libray will have money to buy new books. Happy Reading!
Wow so much is going on right now! Last week I went to the Jr Beta Club Convention in Huntsville and had a blast. Jarod Ferguson did an excellent job with his speeches and we had several students to place in different contests. I can't wait for next year when it will be held in Mobile, AL. As most of you know, The Hunger Games comes to theatres tomorrow night. I am soooo excited. I have been so enjoying seeing all the different hype on the Internet about this movie. Anyway, I will have to let ya'll know how it is (although I am pretty sure it will be epic!) Also an annoucement: There is a YA Scavenger Hunt online next weekend. You will go to 20 different young adult fiction authors' websites and collect clues. Then from the winning entries they will draw a winner who gets a signed copy of a book from each website! That's 20 new books to read with the author's signature (Sweet!) Here is the link to the YA Scavenger Hunt blog. I want everybody to participate in it, but at the same time I don't really want anymore competition because I want those books. Happy Hunting anyway!
I have a couple new sections on the wesbsite. One of them is the 3 cool things about me prezis that some students have completed in my library activities. On this page you can see a listing of links to Prezis created by different 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders describing 3 things about them that make them unique. I have also added a page about the book Divergent by Veronica Roth. Check these two pages out. I have started teaching art for the new 9wks resource block. I am so excited about teaching this course. It is going to be tons of fun. I plan to post pictures of some of the art that the class creates so be sure to check beck soon to see all the artistic talent. ;)
On Tuesday night, I watched a live Ustream chat with Colleen Houck the author of the Tiger's Curse series. This was a really cool experience. She answered questions that fans had emailed to her, and one of them was mine. I didn't get the answer I was wanting but it was still pretty cool to hear my question in the chat. I can't wait for her to do another one of those. Secondly I got an email about a game to go along with the Divergent book. Unfortunately it goes through Facebook so we can't access at school but you could try it at home. I will post the info below. I am going to try it when I get home and see what it is all about.
I have updated the website to include book trailers to go with the book reviews. I think this will be a cool bonus to help you decide it you want to read one of the books I have listed there. I have also found the websites www.epicreads.com and www.harperteen.com that offer lots of info about up and coming books. The Epic Reads website has links to the first few chapters of some of the books so you can try it out and see if you like it.
We have new books in the library! It is just like Christmas everytime we get new books. I love it! There are some great titles in this shipment including the 5th and 6th book in the Blue Bloods series as well as a short story collection from that series. We also got the next book in the House of Night series and The Missing series and The Witch ans Wizard series. In addition to all that, we also ordered some new dystopian novels (like The Hunger Games.)
I also have added a new page to the website called Who I Am Poems. Here you can look at each of the avatars created by students in the latest library lesson. In the drop box under the Who I Am Poems tab you can choose to different grade levels to look at. See if you can guess who posted which avatar.. So in the month of January, one one my favorite authors, Colleen Houck, was having an art contest for art centered around the Tiger's Voyage book. Even though I am not an artist I submitted a drawing in the hopes that I would win and we would have a new audiobook for the library. Well, I didn't win (not surprisingly) but they did post all the entries online. So if you click this link it will take you to the web album with all the art entries. If you scroll down just a little ways you can see an entry that is two drawings of hands. This is mine. So check it out and let me know what you think.
I know that it's strange to have another new website this school year. But, in my defense, I went to a Technology in Motion training last week and the instructor told us about Weebly.com and how easy it was to use and how elaborate you could make your websites. So I decided to give it a shot. I have so loved this new website, and I hope ya'll do too. I hope that it can be a site that you can use for fun and to help you in your school work.
